Marlborough resident Robin Green is seeking to be named the Republican candidate for the 55th House District at Monday’s convention in Hebron.
She has the backing of the current seatholder, Rep. Gayle Mulligan, R-Hebron, who announced last month she would not run for re-election in the district, which covers Andover, Bolton, Hebron, and Marlborough.
Green, a wife and mother of two children, owns Discovery Zone Learning Centers, providing child care in three locations —Columbia, Hebron, and Marlborough.
Green, a 10-year resident of Marlborough and RHAM High School graduate, said the position requires an experienced candidate who can help deliberations in Hartford with an understanding of how small towns and money management work.
Green said her expertise is in evaluating budgets, managing finances, and spending no more money than received.
“I am deeply concerned with the dire financial situation this state is in, and have heard from so many in our area about how exasperated and frustrated they are,” Green said.
Since deciding to seek the nomination, Green has been attending town committee meetings and speaking with residents of Andover, Bolton, Hebron, and Marlborough.
“I love our state and want to see it flourish again, returning to a time of prosperity,” she said. “It is unacceptable to see families continue to struggle — retirees and businesses leaving our state in record numbers.
“Being involved with families in the towns in the 55th, I have witnessed the failing state economy, and the difficulties with the poor performance of state government to turn it around.”
Mulligan said Green will be an asset to the Republican caucus because of her experience, education in social sciences, and passion for the communities she will serve.
“I’ve talked to many people about seeking this position and I whole-heartedly support Robin,” Mulligan said.
Locally, Green has helped RHAM’s Project Graduation and served as a member of the Marlborough Arts Center and Museum, Friends of the Richmond Library, and the Marlborough Republican Town Committee.
She is also a member of the Marlborough Business Association, Friends of Connecticut State Parks, and professionally, a long-time member of the Connecticut Childcare Association.
